Ticket 1538265: Mixed shipping profiles

Two shipping profiles in one cart

Both carts below hold the same two items: a freight item ($4,699.99) and a small parcel item ($14.99). Each item sits in a different shipping profile.

Use this test address: 807 Trotter Ave, Sarasota, Florida, 34237, United States.

1. The problem: two profiles, different method names

Freight profile offers “Freight Included (Free)” and “LTL Freight $249”. Parcel profile offers “Free Shipping” and “Ground Parcel $12.95”. The two lists do not match.

Result at checkout: one single option named Standard Shipping priced Free. The freight charge disappears.

2. The fix: the same method names in both profiles

Both profiles now offer the same two methods: “T1538265 Shipping” and “T1538265 Rush Shipping”. Only the prices differ per profile ($249 / $399 on the freight side, $12.95 / $29.95 on the parcel side).

Result at checkout: T1538265 Shipping $261.95 and T1538265 Rush Shipping $428.95. Real names, real prices, added together, and the customer still chooses.

Why it happens

SureCart splits the cart into one group per shipping profile and prices each group on its own. If every profile offers the exact same shipping methods, it merges them method by method and adds the prices. If the method lists differ, it cannot decide which name to show, so it builds one unnamed option out of the cheapest rate from each profile. The checkout has no name to print for that option, so it prints its fallback label, “Standard Shipping”.

This is why the price came out as Free: the cheapest rate in each profile was a free rate, and free plus free is free.
